We’ve got tons of questions since release of our new CCIE Security v4 workbook. I will try to answer most of them here to clear up most of your doubts.
Q: Is the new workbook for current CCIE Security v4?
A: Yes, the workbook is based on our previous workbook, but it has a bunch of new labs to address most of technologies from new blueprint. It has also new ‘look and feel’.
Q: Do you provide a sample of the workbook?
A: Absolutely, click here to download PDF Sample (100 pages).
Q: Is the new workbook contain full 8-hour length labs?
A: Nope, this workbook is ‘technology-focused’. It means that there are labs covering each technology from the current blueprint. We’re working to provide Mock Labs (8-hours labs) soon. Stay tuned.
Q: I see task for ‘feature xxx’ in the detailed CCIE Security v4 blueprint but I cannot see it covered in the book. What now?
A: Right, there can be some minor differences. Current version of a book (v1.0) has 99% of technologies covered. Our plan is to keep updating our book every quarter. This means you’ll get new release of the book with new labs (if necessary) and with our new comments and task descriptions. We’re constantly getting feedback from our students and they say that our comments for tasks and verification procedures are the most valuable things in entire book. No other vendor has this so detailed and useful. This is our key differentiation. Next version will be released in Q2 2013 (March) and will have a bunch of IPv6 labs and more labs for IKEv2/FlexVPN. Stay tuned.
Q: Do you have any book for CCIE Security Written exam?
A: No, and we will not have it. Simply because there are some Cisco Press books to prepare a candidate to pass Written exam and also Cisco’s official documentation (config guides) is a great source of knowledge. Check this post on CLN for list of recommended resources. Also our workbook is a great resource for theoretical knowledge as we provide our comments and additional info for each task/technology presented in the book. Personally, I prefer to study both theory and practical things and when I’m ready I go and pass written exam. Then, after a short time I go and pass lab exam as well.
Q: How the book is secured?
A: Our book is a very valuable study resource for CCIE candidates and it contains much of our knowledge from experience. Hence, we need to protect it. The book is protected by LockLizard security technology and buying the book you’ll get secure PDF and a license to open it. The file can be viewed on Windows/MAC/Linux OSes.
Q: What about topology used in the book? What rack can I run the labs on?
A: The book was written to be as topology-independent as possible. This means you can run labs on your own gear or use rack rentals from any vendor. All you need is to watch physical connections and port names/numbers.
Q: Do you provide rack rentals for new CCIE Security v4 labs?
A: Not at this time. We’re building our rack and they should be available for renting soon. The most important thing is we will be much cheaper than any other vendor. Also, for students attending our bootcamp, we’re providing lab access for two weeks for free!!!
Q: I’m a former student. Is there any discount for me?
A: Yes, we respect our students and we provide the book in a special price. Contact sales @ micronicstraining.com for details. Remember that we have free lifetime retakes of our bootcamp. Once you attend our class you’ll be more than welcome to join us next time (even if you have passed the CCIE lab exam or CCIE lab exam blueprint changed).
Q: I checked your website and there are no dates for upcoming bootcamps. Will you provide any bootcamps this year?
A: Yes, the website is being rebuilt and should be updated soon. For any dates ask our sales representative. Stay tuned for a brand new website.
Hope I answered most of the questions here. If not, please post your question in the comments section and I will add it to the FAQ.
